Results timing on BREXIT voting: Per BBC website, “counts will get under way when polls close at 22:00 BST Thursday, 23 June at 382 local centres around the UK. These local results will be declared as the counts are completed before being collated at 12 regional centres, which will also declare the totals for each side. There will be a rolling total so the time at which one side reaches the point of being mathematically unbeatable depends on how quickly the votes are counted and how close the results are running. It is a safe bet that from 04:00 onwards there should be pretty clear picture of which way the vote is going.”

Polls close at 3:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (New York) on Friday, and “clear picture” should be in place by 9:00 a.m – i.e., before markets open in US Friday morning..

Expect high-volume pre-market trading on US exchanges.

It has been VERY interesting following the price of gold bullion over the past few weeks. Although hardly a normal political indicator, Gold’s price appears to be closely following the BREXIT equation. Gold has been quite Weak for the last few days, indicating to many that the STAY vote will prevail – it’s a more or less a vote for the status-quo. Leaving would be far more traumatic, and this would be indicated by heightened anxiety and a stronger Gold price.

I’d say the gold price movements around Brezit have been more about the dollar and less about gold — if there’s a vote to leave, people are widely expecting the dollar to shoot higher again on the “flight to safety” trade as we wait to see what happens to the pound and euro.

Bio: Not so sure. Its not like a general election where there are 99 candidates. This ‘election only has two candidates. Opinion is very regional…..Scotlands IN, Wales is OUT. You could be misled by whichever regional result is revealed first.

Travis,
You may have this comment already; I didn’t read them.
Leaving off the time of a comment makes it difficult to find where you last were following the comments. Please put it back.

Obviously, to a feeble mind like mind, it is difficult to know where to comment on the new format.

From Biotech Primer weekly, # 113 about p53
COCKTAIL FODDER: AN ELEPHANT-SIZED INSPIRATION

Elephants very rarely get cancer. One would expect them to get the disease more often than smaller animals due to the vast amount of cells in their bodies and the fact that they live almost as long as humans. Researchers at the University of Utah have pinpointed the likely reason for their longevity: extra copies of the p53 gene. Humans have two copies while elephants have 40! By studying elephants and other cancer-resistant animals such as the naked mole rat, scientists may find additional protective proteins that could inspire human therapeutics.
